Emergencies, disasters, accidents, injuries, and crime can occur without warning at any time. Panic or failure to act are major obstacles to safe and effective response in an emergency situation.

Advance planning, preparation and practice are the most effective ways of ensuring that individuals can respond calmly and effectively in an emergency. See the Planning & Preparation Guidelines at the end of this on-line Emergency Procedures guide for assistance in developing department and individual emergency plans. Write down the following emergency information in a place where you can access it easily as a first step in preparing for an emergency.
