UO Emergency Management (UOEM) Program

Definition

Emergency management is the administrative function charged with creating the framework within which the University can reduce vulnerability and sensitivity to hazards and cope with crises and disasters.

Mission

Emergency management protects the University by facilitating the coordination and integration of activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, continue operations during, and recover from natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other human-caused crises or disasters.

UOEM program builds upon Oregon's successful and nationally recognized collaborative Oregon Partnership for Disaster Resilience. The intent of the nationally recognized statewide Partnership is to provide a comprehensive, cost-effective approach for organizations to bring together resources - both human and financial -  to enhance disaster safety and risk reduction

Building upon the Partnership's foundation, the UOEM program will employ an interdisciplinary and service learning approach to campus emergency management that leverages the University's human resources (faculty, staff and students) to provide planning and technical assistance to help solve complex vulnerability issues, improve overall safety and quality of life on campus
